Cokeria Severstal: Detail Design and Machine Edge

In 2020-2021, our company completed the execution of the detail engineering and machine edge activities for coking machines to be carried out at the steel plant in Severstal (SEV) in Russia. This project involved a number of engineering activities, from initial input analysis to final delivery of design solutions. 

Project description

Our team performed the electro-instrumental design for the following coking machines:
  • No.2 Stamp Charging Machines (SCP)
  • No.2 Coke Transfer Car (CTC)
  • No.2 Coke Gas Transfer Car (CGT)
  • N.2 Hot Coke Bucket Car (HCBC)
We optimized the machine interface with the other components of the system to avoid interference, ensuring efficient and trouble-free integration into the existing system.

Project objectives

The goal was to develop a set of detailed, reliable and precise engineering processes to allow Severstal to:
  • Finalize the complete purchase of all the necessary bulk material.
  • Provide the assembly company with all the detailed information required for the installation of the electrical system.
 

Technical Solution

Our team, composed of experts with specific skills in the field of coking machines, has carried out the design of detail and machine edge, including the following activities:
  • Analysis and verification of project inputs: The team examined all initial information and requirements to ensure accurate design. This phase included a thorough understanding of the required technical specifications and their translation into a detailed engineering plan.
  • Experience with coking plants: Our extensive experience has enabled us to carry out our own specialized design, ensuring that each component is optimized for the operating conditions of the Severstal plant.
  • Detailed electrical dimensions: Accurate calculations have been performed to ensure the energy efficiency and safety of the plant, respecting local and international regulations on electrical safety.
  • Electro-instrumental plant design: The detail design included all aspects needed to integrate new machines with the existing system without interference. This phase required the elaboration of complex electrical schematics, selection of appropriate materials and preparation of the technical documentation necessary for installation and maintenance.

The coking plant sector is essential for the production of steel, as coke is an essential component of the iron melting process. The Severstal plant, located in Russia, is one of the most advanced examples of coking technology, contributing significantly to the efficiency and sustainability of steel production. The use of cutting-edge technologies and innovative engineering solutions is essential to maintain high production standards and reduce environmental impact.
